Sound Healing, sound baths and gong baths
I discovered sound healing when I was searching for ways to ease stress and anxiety. I was amazed at how calm I felt after a session. It quickly became one of my favourite practices for self-care. I loved it so much I became a sound healer myself.
What is a sound bath?
First, you do not get wet! It involves you relaxing in a comfortable position whilst sound healing instruments are played around you. Quite literally, you are immersed in sound. There are many different sound healing instruments, but I mainly use gongs and crystal singing bowls.
How does it work?
Everything in the Universe is made from energy vibrating at different frequencies, including ourselves. We may look solid, but our molecules are vibrating at different rates. We are rhythmic beings with a variety of biological frequencies. Some we are aware of, like a heartbeat or breathing rate; others occur without our knowledge, like brainwaves. When we are stressed or sick, our natural rhythms are irregular. Our frequency is out of balance.
Sound is an energetic vibration traveling in waves that penetrates through all matter, be it air, water, or the human body. Sound healing instruments produce a variety of frequencies that wash through the body to restore our optimal state of vibration. They also activate our parasympathetic nervous system by moving us through different brainwave states. We are left feeling relaxed and balanced. This harmonious state provides the perfect environment for the body to heal itself physically, mentally, and emotionally.
What is the difference between a sound bath and a gong bath?
A sound bath may use a variety of instruments, such as singing bowls, drums, chimes, or chant. A gong bath mainly uses gongs.

Intention setting
To help get the most out of your sound healing experience you can set an intention. By having a focus for the energy to work on, the healing aspect will be amplified.
A helpful way to set an intention is to think about how you would like to feel, for example, relaxed or happy. There may be something on your mind that you want to let go of, or you may like to set an intention to attract something into your life. There is no right or wrong way to set an intention.
